Reynolds Learning Communities are linked courses taught by a team of faculty members who connect the concepts of their disciplines under a common theme or question in a fun, creative and flexible setting. You receive credit for each class as if you were taking traditional classes thus transfer and graduation credits are met.

The integration of disciplines within a Community helps focus your education, builds motivation and gives added meaning to your college experience. What’s more you’ll be able to study and interact with a small group of students who share your common interests. A great college education means more than simply completing a list of required courses – why not make learning an adventure!


Conquering College Math- PRISMM Plus If you are registering for a section of PRISMM math, you are encouraged to give strong consideration to concurrently registering in one of the SDV sections listed below. In doing so you will (1.) complete your SDV requirement and (2.) greatly improve your chances of finishing developmental math in this academic year.

Linked Courses—PRISMM Mathematics (designated sections of MTH 2, 3 or 4) & Student Development 100

  • PRISMM Mathematics : PRISMM times MWF 9:30-10:40, or MWF 11-12:10, or MW 1-2:50, or TR 11-12:50, or TR 1-2:50 – any section is appropriate at these times AND
  • SDV 100 Section 01CP, Thursday, 9-10:30 a.m. (first 8-week session) Morrrison OR

Web Rhetoric: Writing & Design for the Web and Life - In this learning community, you will learn to code and develop Web pages to fulfill the requirements of ITD 110 while developing an e-portfolio of personal and academic writing to fulfill the requirements of ENG 112. Writing and designing content for Web pages will also be a focus of the learning community.

Writing Beyond the Margins & Borders: Writing, Research, and Communication for the 21st Century – This learning community supports your success by linking the courses English 112 and ITE 115. The computer concepts and applications of ITE 115 support 21st century activities of research, writing, and communication; and English 112 focuses on and develops to a greater extent writing based on critical research, argument, and information literacy; and goes beyond the margins by examining and experimenting 21st century communication such as visual rhetoric text messaging, and blogging. You will learn the computer skills needed in Word, PowerPoint and computer cncepts to successfully complete the English writing assignments.

Teamwork & Truth: Working Together for Ethics in Business - What traits does an ethical business possess? Is there a difference between “behaving ethically” and “operating within the law”? Want to learn successful and productive business skills that promote teamwork and integrity? The instructors of this learning community invite you to explore these and other questions with them.Teamwork and Truth: Working Together for Ethics in Business is the motto that captures the essence of the BUS 100/ENG 111 learning community. Be a part of something new and exciting while developing essential communications and critical-thinking skills that will enable success in your career of choice. Successful and productive businesses are those that promote teamwork and integrity, and developing these skills will be a major focus of the Teamwork and Truth learning community. Closely aligned with integrity is the question of ethics, which we’ll explore in depth.

“Ignorantia Supremus Tyrranus”: Civic Responsibility and the Life Sciences - Ignorance is the greatest tyrant.” You will continue to learn the basic concepts of biology as well as read and write about social issues related to these scientific concepts. Students enrolled in these linked courses will use writing to reinforce learning in the life science course and to explore the ethical, social, economic, and political implications of applying biological science to your own life and civic duty. This learning community links two courses that fulfill general education science and composition requirements for many academic programs.

The Pursuit of Happiness: the Liberal Arts Learning Community - . Want to get some answers?  Learn to use History, Sociology, and Composition to explore tensions in today's America, in Richmond, and in your life. This learning community will use these three disciplines’ methods of looking at the world to explore tensions in past and contemporary America. Our promise? You will leave this experience with skills you can use to better understand and change your life.

Urban Teacher Learning Community - Are you interested in a career as a teacher? Then this learning community is your boarding ticket to a fulfilling career! If you are interested in becoming a teacher, you can begin your path to teaching while enjoying all the benefits of a Learning Community. A strong component of this Learning Community is the emphasis on interpersonal relationships and communication. Students will investigate learning styles and multiple intelligences, educational philosophies, and other issues associated with urban education through discussion, oral presentations, and the writing process. Collaboration in these activities will encourage both positive working relationships and greater knowledge of the material. You can develop these peer relationships in succeeding semesters by means of other linked courses in the pre-teacher program

See the Pictures – Hear the Stories - Did you ever wonder about the genesis of works which come to be recognized as “art”? Does “art” spring forth serendipitously and spontaneously? Or do historical events shape architecture, statues and pictures that diverse cultures have produced? By bringing together art and history, you will explore how the interrelationship between social, political, military and economic events that were occurring during a particular time, influenced the recognized art work of that same period; you will learn how cultures have expressed themselves to the world through art from the ancient times. Students interested in this Learning Community must register for both course sections.
