Distance Learning

Academic Support

At Reynolds, distance learning is “online but not on your own.” We confirm this motto with student support resources to enable your success at every point along the way. These resources are available to students who cannot come to campus just as they would be for our campus students. You will never be alone in your distance learning journey. Use these contacts any time you have and questions, need, or problem.

Smarthinking
Smarthinking is an online tutoring service that Reynolds makes available to every online student. It is available through Blackboard (unless your professor has disabled it). Click on the Tools button in your course and you should see it in the list. Smarthinking provides tutoring in mathematics (basic math through Calculus, including Bilingual Math), Biology, Intro Human A & P, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Accounting, Intro to Finance, Statistics, Spanish, and Writing. Additional information is located in the Student Help section of every course.

Student Lingo
Student Lingo is a free resource available to all JSRCC students that provides online workshops on a variety of success topics. You can watch these 20-30 minute sessions from any computer and at any time of the day or night – they are available 24/7!  To access this free resource, simply visit www.studentlingo.com/reynolds and type in your name, student identification number (EMPL), date of birth and student email in the fields provided.

Reynolds Academic Advising
Academic advising is available to all students – even those who cannot come to campus. At times, you may need an approval, guidance, or advice about your courses and programs. This is particularly pertinent during your first year to ensure that you are on the right track. It is easy to waste time taking the wrong courses or not taking courses that you will need. Help is just a click away.

Reynolds Career, Employment and Transfer
The Center for Career, Employment, and Transfer is available to assist students in reaching future goals. You may intend to earn an associate degree that will open doors to a new career. Your goal may be a four-year degree or beyond. You may need assistance in moving up the ladder in your present career. The CCET can help you with all of these and more.

Reynolds Student Accommodations
Student Accommodations assists students who have documented disabilities to obtain access to the services of the college. Technological advances continue to offer new tools to overcome many disabilities. Contact this office for more information and assistance.
