Financial Aid Course Audit (FACA)

Understanding FACA - the new Financial Aid eligibility notification

Make the most of your academic career by maximizing your financial aid. Financial aid is intended to help you achieve your educational goals. Therefore, maximize your financial aid by selecting courses that count toward your degree or certificate program.

Federal regulations indicate that students can only receive financial aid only for courses that apply toward their declared degree or certificate program.

While this is not a new rule, Reynolds has adopted the FACA, a new system that allows us to inform you within 24-48 hours after you register whether any of your course selections are ineligible for financial aid.

What you should do

  • Be proactive! Discuss your academic and career goals with your advisor and choose a program(s) that aligns with your goals.
  • Log on to myREYNOLDS, go to your Student Center and click on My Academics to confirm you are enrolled in the program you have identified.
  • Register for courses that apply to your program of study in order to maximize your financial aid award and achieve your goals sooner.

FACA FAQs

How do I know if my courses are eligible for financial aid?

The FACA uses the advisement report to identify courses required for your program. Shortly after you register (typically by the following day), you can determine whether any of your course selections are ineligible for aid by following these steps:

  • Log on to myREYNOLDS and click on VCCS SIS Student Information System
  • From Self-Service menu, click on Student Center
  • Under Finances, click on View Financial Aid
  • Click on the current aid year and scroll to the correct term
  • Click on View Course Eligibility

You will see each course identified as eligible or ineligible for financial aid.

  • Eligible courses will be marked with a green check.
  • Ineligible courses will be marked with a red “x.”
  • Courses that have not yet been evaluated will have a question mark.

Additionally, you will receive messages in your Student Center that identify the courses that do not apply to your program of study and therefore aren’t eligible for financial aid.

How do I view my advisement report?

Follow these steps to view your advisement report:

  • Log on to myREYNOLDS and click on VCCS SIS Student Information System
  • From Self-Service menu, click on Student Center
  • Under Academics, click on My Academics
  • Click on View My Advisement Report

What do I do if my course is not eligible for financial aid?

  • Log on to myREYNOLDS, go to your Student Center and click on My Academics to confirm you are enrolled in the program you have identified.
  • You should review your advisement report. Any courses that fall under the “Unused Courses” section are classes that are not covered by financial aid.
  • If you feel your course is marked ineligible by mistake, you should contact your advisor.

Can I use my financial aid to cover books for ineligible courses?

No. Financial aid is intended to cover tuition/fees, books, and supplies only for courses that apply to your program.

Are developmental courses eligible for financial aid?

  • Developmental courses up to the maximum of 30 credit hours will be counted as eligible for financial aid in the FACA process.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) courses do not count towards the 30 credit developmental limit.

I am repeating a class. Will it be eligible for financial aid?

Financial aid allows for ONE repeat course, if the student has passed the course with a grade of D or higher.

What do I do if I need to change my program?

You should visit your academic advisor

I am substituting a course in my program. Is it eligible for financial aid?

Meet with your advisor for assistance with obtaining a course substitution. In the event you are receiving a pre-approved course substitution to meet your program requirements, the documentation must be submitted and completed by Admissions and Records in order for financial aid to cover the course substitution.
