HyFlex Workshops

This 1 hour and 20-minute training will introduce non-HyFlex instructors and presenters to the HyFlex classroom setup. Topics include a review of the classroom equipment, how to access and use the projector and document camera, how to share presentation media from multiple devices, and how to invite remote students via Zoom. The session will focus on three common scenarios to address instructor/presenter needs: (1) lecture and/or whiteboard use only, (2) lecture with shared presentation or media from the instructor machine, and (3) lecture with shared presentation or media from a personal device. At the end of training attendees will be able to turn on the equipment, share presentation media from multiple devices and address common troubleshooting issues in a HyFlex classroom. This session is perfect for faculty teaching a face-to-face class in a HyFlex classroom but do not plan to teach a HyFlex-type course.

*Please note that  HyFlex 101 is not required to attend  HyFlex 201.  HyFlex 101 is intended for non- HyFlex faculty assigned to a  HyFlex classroom.

Attendees are introduced and the definition of HyFlex at Reynolds and the basics of HyFlex pedagogy. In addition, participants learn how to set up and access HyFlex room controls during a Zoom meeting, review classroom equipment including TV display, projector, microphones and cameras, and how to successfully manage and operate presentation media. At the end of training, attendees will understand how to manage both face-to-face and online students simultaneously using a variety of instructional tools and strategies. Attendees will also be able to address common troubleshooting issues in a HyFlex classroom. This training is intended for HyFlex instructors or staff who support HyFlex instructors such as AV and IT team members, Academic Deans, and Program Heads, as well as those who support event management that include HyFlex classroom equipment to accommodate both in-person and virtual attendees simultaneously.

Hyflex Course Design is a hands-on workshop that offers insightful faculty perspective and experiences, FAQ’s, and other essential resources to help you excel in the Hyflex modality. Learners will use various free resources that are designed for engaging students in Zoom and in person, will use a curriculum map to align content for the three modalities, evaluate possible ways of ensuring that Hyflex course design and delivery is equitable across the three modalities, and will design at least one module for their Hyflex course. Learners will also be able to recognize the four pillars of Hyflex developed by Brian Beatty: learner choice, equivalency, reusability, and accessibility.
