Class Highlights

HMS 100 - Introduction to Human Services

Introduces human service agencies, roles and careers. Presents an historical perspective of the field as it relates to human services today.

MEN 101 - Mental Health Skill Training I

Develops skills necessary to function as a mental health worker, with emphasis on guided practice in counseling skills as well as improved self-awareness.

HMS 226 - Helping Across Cultures

Provides an historical overview of selected cultural and racial groups. Promotes understanding of group differences and the impact on counseling services.

Additional Program Information

PURPOSE: Individuals currently working in the field of behavioral health or other public service occupations in social/human services, education, healthcare, public safety, emergency medical, firefighter, and other first responder jobs should strongly consider the benefits of completing this short-term CSC.

OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES: Prepares students with the knowledge and skills to help individuals with:

  • Mental illness
  • Children and adults on the autism spectrum
  • Intellectual disabilities
  • Substance use disorders

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: General college curricular admission.

CERTIFICATION: Students may be eligible to sit for the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification exam after completing additional industry requirements. Industry requirements for the (RBT) certification include a total number of approved agency practicum observation hours and/or a combination of successful completion of online modules that combined must total at least 40 hours and a passing score on the (RBT) exam.
