HMS 121 - Basic Counseling Skills I

Master the skills needed to function in a helping relationship. Emphasizes skills in attending, listening, and responding.

HMS 141 - Group Dynamics I

Examine the stages of group development, group dynamics, the role of the leader in a group, and recognition of the various types of group processes.

HMS 225 - Functional Family Intervention

Gain an understanding of functions and dysfunctions within the family with an emphasis on the development of an approach to family intervention.

Additional Program Information

PURPOSE: Prepares students for employment as human services technicians in social service agencies; childcare agencies; hospitals; programs and rehabilitation agencies that serve the physically and intellectually disabled and rehabilitation agencies; mental health settings; juvenile and adult corrections; private, non-profit, and for-profit agencies; and geriatric facilities.

OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES: Employment opportunities include, but are not limited to, the following types of employers: social service agencies; childcare agencies; hospitals; programs and rehabilitation agencies that serve the physically and intellectually disabled and rehabilitation agencies; mental health settings; juvenile and adult corrections; private, non-profit, and for-profit agencies; and geriatric settings.

CERTIFICATION: With completion of the Human Services Technician CSC, students who choose to complete additional industry requirements may be eligible to sit for the Board Certified Autism Technician (BCAT) certification exam.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: General college curricular admission.
